I promised to document our process, and so here we go! As you may recall, after multiple requests from various family members, Mr. Bryant agreed to make a triple batch of chili. Our recipe is here. To facilitate all the chopping required, he bought a "slap chopper" (inspired by the infomercial the other night - yes, really) to make the onion chopping tearless, and we got started.
Mr. Bryant put salt in the pan and started things heating while he "slap chopped" the onions and garlic. He put the meat (we used turkey) into the pan and after breaking it up he added the onions and garlic to brown everything.
Once things were nicely browned he transferred the meat and onions to a larger pot and started adding everything else - the tomatoes, tomato juice, water, vinegar, and SPICES, including the grated chocolate.
